Both Kagerou Daze and The Irregular At Magic High School just had their respective anime adaptations premiere as part of the Spring 2014 anime season and both have already gained the top 2 spots for Oricon’s Top 10 Light Novels list, beating out favorites Sword Art Online, Monogatari, Oregairu, and the A Certain series. This just proves how popular both series are in japan even before their respective anime adaptations premiered.

Author Reki Kawahara proved his writing prowess by having two series in the top 10, namely Accel World which took the #9 spot and Sword Art online which took the #3 spot. A Certain author meanwhile took the #6 and #7 spots respectively as Kazuma Kamachi’s popular “A Certain” series proves its staying power with the recent release of the new Index movie as well as the Railgun S anime.

Monogatari and Oregairu also remained very strong contenders as both series have continued to wow readers with their engaging stories.

Oricon also released their Top 10 mangas for the first half of 2014.
