Recently, the electrifying Pokemon, Pikachu have invaded and taken over Yokohama as they danced their way through Pacifico Yokohama in an event called the Pikachu Outbreak in Yokohama. And as the event came down to its finale from August 16 -17, the area was once again filled with Pikachu, as well as fire works.
As the finale was scheduled near the Obon Festival (which is usually August 15), Yokohama adopted an Obon Festival theme complete with plenty of booths and games. And just like any Obon Festival, masks were sold, but these ones had a more Pokemon vibe to them.
Pikachus were seen everywhere in the area. By the time you get off the train in Sakuragichou station, you will be greeted by Pikachus. The cute electric mouse Pokemon can be seen in just about anywhere from the local ferry boats to the sail boat Nippon Maru, to even the famous Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris wheel in Minato Mirai.
Fans were also treated to a special Pokemon projection mapping show over at the Yokohama Landmark Tower’s Dockyard Garden. The lights show boasted a 180 degree mapping which was perfectly complimented by the Dockyard Garden’s structure. It starred (who else?) Pikachu, who thrilled the audience, no matter the age.
The Pikachu Outbreak in Yokohama started last August 9, 2014 and ended on August 17, 2014. Don’t you just wish for the Pikachus to invade your home city as well?
