From the popular Maoyu Maou Yuusha comes one of the latest figures from Kotobukiya, the lovely and intelligent Maou, or demon king.
Box
The box is fairly large, measuring about 32cm in height and 22cm in width. It reflects the anime’s beautiful medieval tapestry-like art style with its vivid coloration. You can view the Maou figure pretty easily and a thin window at the box’s right side offers you a peek at her sides.
Figure
The figure’s height is average when it comes to 1/8 scale figures as it measures in at a bit over 24cm. Her height aside, the figure itself is quite wide due to her large fluttering skit.
Maou considers herself “fat” and full of “useless meat”. Well, let’s just say that Kotobukiya did the opposite of her description of herself and all her “useless meat” went somewhere else in the figure.
Sculptor Masato Abe did Maou some justice by staying true to her proportions. The figure is also quite sturdy though the ribbon near her belly is quite fragile so be careful.
The details in her dress are simply beautiful. In some angles, her fluttering skirt can leave a lot to the imagination. The ruffles in her skirt are well detailed, so much so that they really do seem like they are fluttering in the air as Maou spins around.
Her arms are decorated with fine jewelry and is also quite detailed.
Maou also goes by the name “Crimson Scholar” and this figure’s colors truly give her some justice. The painting was quite well done and this figure truly goes by Kotobukiya’s quality high standards.
Her horns are also removable to make this demon blend in with the humans. At first I thought the horns were just a headband just like what she wore in the anime but I was definitely wrong. Taking the horns off needed a bit of disassemble and reassembly as some “hornless” hair parts were also included.
But if you ask me, I prefer those horns on.
Her base is beautifully crafted with so many fine details on the stone and grass. It is also quite small compared to most figure bases. I like its smaller size since it allows me to have more room space for my other collection.
Kotobukiya is known for quality sculptures and painting and this figure is definitely Kotobukiya material through and through from the box’s beautiful artwork to the beautiful base and the Maou figure itself, this demon king is certainly a great figure. I give it a 9/10.
