Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia announced today that the Miku Miku Hockey PS Vita game app, which was a hit with attendees when it was showcased at the Nico Nico Chokaigi convention, will be coming to the PSN exclusively for PlayStation Plus members in Japan. No word on if this will be a free or paid app.
Check out our previous story on Miku Miku Hockey here for the full details of what the app actually does – in short, it’s an augmented reality app where you can play air hockey against Hatsune Miku or her failed-mascot-turned-viral-Internet-gold counterpart, Mikudayo-san.
The version of Miku Miku Hockey that’s coming to PSN won’t just be the exact same technical demo that Nico Nico Chokaigi attendees played; some enhancements to the game app will be made.
Specifically, there is a now a new spectate mode where you can watch Hatsune Miku and Mikudayo-san (or two Hatsune Mikus or Mikudayos) play air hockey with one another. There will also be some sort of character leveling up mechanic.
This new and improved version of Miku Miku Hockey will be distributed on PSN in Japan, exclusively to PlayStation Plus members, from September 10 to November 19.
If you’re a Hatsune Miku fan who’s heading down to Yokohama for the Magical Mirai 2013 event happening there, you will be able to play the new version of Miku Miku Hockey ahead of PlayStation Plus subscribers in Japan.
Although this announcement is just for Japan at the moment, we’ll check with Sony to see if the app might be coming to PS Plus in Asia as well. Stay tuned.
