Meet 17-year-old Arisa Kanzawa. She’s the face of Tomoko Kuroki in a new live-action Watamote: No Matter How I Look at It, It’s You Guys’ Fault I’m Not Popular! TV spot that the manga series’s publisher, GanGan Online, is putting together.

Online comments from 2ch forum goers after they’ve seen these photos range from various forms of expressing “kawaiiii”, to “I’d love to go to the natsu matsuri (summer festival) with her”.
What do you think? She’s a pretty cute girl, huh? Well, she’s an artiste, after all. I bet she’s extremely popular with the boys at school.
Which, of course, means that you can’t really say that the casting for this TV spot is 100% true to the source material since Tomoko Kuroki in Watamote is supposed to be a socially-inept girl who’s not at all popular with anyone.
But can you blame the producers, really? Everything looks better on TV, after all.
Besides, the commercial’s producers did try their best to get someone who would be able to portray the part of Tomoko Kuroki well: according to Arisa Kanzawa’s profile description of herself on Twitter, she’s an Otaku-type gal.
In the saccharine-sweet, botox-ified realm of television, Arisa Kanzawa might just be the closest we’ll ever get to a real-life counterpart of Watamote’s Tomoko Kuroki.
