Arpeggio of Blue Steel voice actresses visit Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force base

Thanks to the popular anime Girls und Panzer, the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force has grown in popularity.

Now, with this season’s latest highly anticipated military anime, Arpeggio of Blue Steel, it seems like it’s finally the time for Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force to shine.

Arpeggio of Blue Steel is about humanity’s struggle against the “Fleet of fog” which drove humanity out of the sea. It is a naval-based anime which also features Anthropomorphic battleships who incidentally look like cute girls. That kind of setting would truly be a good fit with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force or JMSDF wouldn’t it?

The anime just premiered its first episode yesterday, October 7, 2013 but before it aired, three of the anime’s female voice cast members payed a little visit to the JMSDF’s Yokosuka naval base in Kanagawa prefecture. Mai Fuchigami, Manami Numakura and Hibiku Yamamura were present as they donned sailor-themed outfits during their visit.

The three voice actresses held a photo session in front of a large gun with some of the base’s personnel and then watched a screening of the anime’s first episode with some of the brave men and women protecting Japan’s waters.

Mai Fuchigami voices Iona, the human avatar of the I-401 submarine as well as the main female lead. Fuchigami is of course known for voicing Girls und Panzer’s Miho Nishizumi, in other words, she just went from being involved with tanks to actually being involved with battleships.

Manami Numakara meanwhile voices Takao, the human avatar of the Fog battleship Takao which is actually based on the real Japanese World War II heavy cruiser, the Takao. Finally, Hibiku Yamamura voices Haruna, also a Fog battleship.
