The character creation tool in Sega’s free-to-play PC MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2 is quite possibly one of the most versatile systems in the genre. You could, for instance, create a Hatsune Miku lookalike in the game way before the virtual diva even made an official appearance in the MMO.
Now, add to that a series of two character costumes and weapons themed after the Puella Magi Madoka Magica that Sega is introducing into the Japanese version of PSO2 in late October, and you can quite literally transform your player character in PSO2 into the stars of the dark anime series, Madoka Kaname and Homura Akemi.
Completing the look is a Kyubey-shaped mag device (a helper droid in PSO2) that sits neatly over your player character’s shoulder.
To demonstrate, here are some screenshots from Sega:
Phantasy Star Online 2 is currently playable only in Japanese. However, Asiasoft Online will be launching and operating an English version of the free-to-play MMORPG in six Southeast Asian countries sometime in 2014.
