Many have been quite surprised at the inclusion of two very particular characters in Sega’s light novel-based fighting game, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax, yet these two “normal girls” look like they can hold their own against heavy hitters like Level 5 esper Mikoto Misaka and Flame Haze Shana. That’s right, this time, we will be taking a look at grade school basketball sensation Tomoka Minato from Ro Kyu Bu!! and THE “tsundere imouto”, Kirino from OreImo.
She may not be able to throw as hard as her upcoming opponent Shizuo (Durarara!!) but she certainly has a lot of skill and friends to help her out. Tomoka Minato is your typical athletic grade school student who just loves basketball and she has charmed her way to the hearts of many fans in the series Ro Kyu Bu!
Tomoka may not be as powerful as the others in the game but she makes up for it with sheer determination and team work as her friends will often appear to help her out during fights. She can launch a surprisingly powerful offence thanks to her team play and she can easily dominate the field. As a basketball player, Tomoka can jump high and avoid ranged attacks and use techniques like her One-handed Jump Shot to her advantage. A lot of tactics and thinking are required to play Tomoka as she uses a wide range of Basketball moves to beat her opponents.
Tomoka uses a lot of throws and passes as well as several “anti-air” moves which make her an effective long range fighter. Her trump card is also quite powerful as she can turn her opponents into a basketball and shoot them. Continuously chaining your combos is essential for using Tomoka as well.
From a grade school basketball player, we then shift our attention to everybody’s not so favorite middle school model/ track & field star/ eroge loving otaku/ little sister, Kirino Kousaka from OreImo.
This feisty tsundere will be giving you a whole lot of problems up close as she has plenty of close-combat moves which may leave you battered and bruised… just like her brother, Kousaka. She attacks with plenty of rushes, kicks, and combos so avoiding her up close would be wise when fighting her. Though limited, she also has plenty of ranged attacks which she can throw at you.
She uses her track & field capabilities with plenty of charges like her “Athlete Dash”. She also uses her otaku abilities to transform (cosplay) and boost her abilities. When transformed (cosplaying), she can unleash impact skills like “Shooting Star” and “Shin Cosplay Ranbu” which is a highly powerful rush attack. She can then finish off opponents with her trump card, “Life Counselling” which can break the guards of her opponents and take them by surprise. Looks like this tsundere sister is a force to be reckoned with b-but i-it’s not like she’s doing it for you! Baka!
Kirino and Tomoka will be joining Kirito and Shana, as well as Shizuo and Kuroyukihime in the upcoming fighting game which will hit Japanese arcades on March 18, 2014. No word on whether the game will have a home console release yet.
