The live action series adaptation of the popular mecha anime The Next Generation -Patlabor- is already underway with its 8 meter robotic star garnering much attention in recent months.
Yesterday, March 17, 2014, the life-size prop for the Type-98 AV Ingram became the star attraction at the Bay Area of Urban Dock Lalaport Toyosu, overlooking Tokyo Bay.
A stage event was held to promote the seven-part live action series which will begin on April 5, 2014. Former Hello! project idol and actress Erina Mano who plays Akira Izumino and Toshio Kakei who plays Captain Keiji Gotoda were present for the event, as well as director Mamoru Oshii who is one of the people responsible for creating the series. A prologue titled “Episode 0: Eikou no Tokusha Nika (The Glorious Special Vehicle Division 2) which was shown earlier this month, March 2014.
Initially, the giant robot was lying down on top of a truck when the event started. But when the Ingram was raised up a platform to a standing position, the crowd was cheering wildly.
Part 1 will begin on April 5, 2014, Part 2 is on May 31, 2014, while Part 3 will be on July 12, 2014. Part 4 will be on August 30, 2014, Part 5 will be on October 18, 2014 and Part 6 will be on November 29. Finally, Part 7 will be premiering on January 1, 2015. A feature film written and directed by Oshii will also be released Spring 2015.
