With the fully-loaded Spring 2014 anime season just right around the corner, Japanese entertainment website, Ure Pia has announced their list of the 10 must-see anime of 2014 and they are:
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders
It ain’t a surprise this upcoming new anime makes it to the list as the beloved characters from Hirohiko Araki’s highly popular shounen manga series manga series come back for Part 3. Expect plenty of action and faaaaaaaaaaabulous poses in this anime which no Jojo fan would even think about missing.
Knights of Sidonia
This science fiction mecha anime promises to be a good one as it follows the spaceship Sidonia as it fights for humanity’s survival against gigantic shape shifting aliens known as Gauna this Spring 2014. In the story, humanity is nearly driven to extinction by large and mysterious enemies who can shape shift. The plot certainly sounds very familiar right? It certainly sounds like the plot of a certain anime which made its premiere last Spring 2013 and took the anime world by storm.
Mekaku City Actors
Based on the vocaloid song series, Kagerou Project, the anime will revolve around the Mekakushi Dan, a group of teenagers with unusual eye-related powers. As this anime will be directed by Akiyuki Shinbo (Monogatari Series, Nisekoi) and produced by Shaft, expect plenty of head tilting and a good story.
No Game No Life
As the title certainly explains the lifestyle of a lot of real-life hardcore gamers these days, it follows siblings Sora and Shiro who are both recluses who consider the real world to be a “crappy game”. However, these gaming siblings are forced out of their comfort zone as they are summoned in another world to save humanity. The anime is adapted from the light novel series of the same name by Yuu Kamiya and has become quite popular as it ranked #10 in the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi 2014 rankings.
Soul Eater Not!
Soul Eater is back!!! Well… not quite actually.
This spin-off anime may not focus on Maka Albarn, Soul Eater Evans, Death the Kid and the other lovable characters from the main series but it certainly promises plenty of laughs and a good story, just like Soul Eater.
Mangaka-san to Assistant-san to
Ever wonder what it is like writing mangas for a living? Comedy anime Mangaka-san to Assistant-san to certainly takes a shot at it as the series follows manga writer (mangaka) Aito Yuuki and his assistant Ashisu Sahoto as they face the challenges of deadlines, plots and everyday life.
Baby Steps
This sports anime follows honor student Eiitirou Maruo who joins his school’s Tennis Club because he feels that he is unhappy and lacks exercise. What makes this tennis anime interesting is that unlike most sports anime where the main characters usually have unrealized talent and potential or is extremely talented in the first place, Eiitirou is quite the opposite as he really lacks stamina and coordination required to play the game.
Captain Earth
This upcoming mecha anime by Bones follows Daichi Manatsu, a 17-year old boy who is thrust into a conflict against robotic invaders from Uranus called the “Kiltgang”. Expect plenty of great action as this anime is directed by Soul Eater director Takuya Igarashi.
Brynhildr in the Darkness
“Brynhildr in the Darkness” or “Gokukoku no Brynhildr” is a science fiction-fantasy anime revolving around magic, mysterious transfer students and a dead childhood friend. The anime follows Ryouta Murakami who lost his childhood friend in an accident. One day, a transfer student named Neko Kuruha transfers into his class and she looks exactly like his dead childhood friend.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Wait, before you say TMNT is a cartoon and not an anime, please note that in Japan, basically anything animated is called anime so it is no surprise that the lovable team of Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo makes it to the 10 must-see anime of Spring 2014 of 2014. The turtles are quite popular in Japan with many fans readying their pizzas while shouting Cowabonga! While it has already been shown in other parts of the world, this new TMNT series will premiere in japan on April 4, 2014.
There you have it folks, the 10 must-see anime of Spring 2014 according to Ure Pia. Do you agree with their picks?
