Gamers rank the best Gundam series ever shown on TV

It has been more than 35 years since Mobile Suit Gundam changed the landscape of not just anime, but also the figure and plastic model industry. A recent magazine scan from a Japanese gaming magazine has recently asked fans on which Gundam series shown on TV is their favorite.

These are ONLY TV ANIME, so Gundam anime movies like Char’s Counterattack, and Gundam F-91, as well as Gundam mangas like Crossbone, and OVAS like War in the Pocket and 08th MS Team did not count. The magazine got over 5,000 respondents to answer their question and here is what they had to say:

One just can’t simply put a good classic down as the original Gundam anime beats out its much younger competition by a landslide. The mecha classic changed the landscape on anime, even though it wasn’t much well received when it first aired. But classics have proven that while some series will be forgotten over time, the really good ones will always be remembered, and that is why the Gundam franchise has gone on for more than 35 years now. The series may have been riddled with bad animation by today’s standards, but then again, it started a revolution.

Yoshiyuki Tomino’s other masterpiece, Gundam Zeta, manages to get the #2 spot ahead of fan-favorite Gundam SEED. The series is one of the legendary anime director’s most critically acclaimed works (and also my personal favorite) so it is not surprising to see it beat out the Gundam series loved by the younger generation.
