[Videos] Tekken 7"s newest fighter is from the Philippines

During a special Tekken 7 live-streaming event at the Bandai Namco headquarters in Japan yesterday, Tekken project lead Katsuhiro Harada has announced the three characters who will be added to Tekken 7’s roster, and they are Jin, Devil Jin, and a character from the Philippines named Josie Rizal.

Josie Rizal, whose name is inspired by the Philippine’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, is a kick-boxer, and judging from her moves, she has a bit of Muay Thai in her. However, according to Harada, she uses both Kick Boxing and the traditional Filipino martial art of Eskrima, which itself is a combination of Spanish and ancient Filipino fighting techniques.

Josie is designed by Mari Shimazaki, who is also the character designer for Bayonetta as well as the character designer for Kazumi Mishima. Harada also sought the help of part-Filipino Mark “Markman” Julio from Mad Catz, who offered advice as to how Josie’s character traits would end up like.

Meanwhile, here are a few videos introducing Jin and Devil Jin.

All three characters were supposed to be revealed on a much later date, however, because of the leaks, they had to reveal them on an earlier date.
