It has been said that Hideo Kojima‘s contract with Konami will expire this December, and when that happens, Kojima will now officially leave Konami, leaving behind a huge legacy for the gaming industry. Kojima has said that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be the final Metal Gear, however, according to Konami UK Community Manager, Graham Day, “the Metal Gear brand will continue.”, and when asked if the series can continue without the help of Hideo Kojima, who Konami is currently as odds with, he said “Yeah, of course it can.”
The interview with Graham Day was done for gaming website, Game On, and he added that a different team can make Metal Gear Solid very successful as well and gave Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance as an example. Of course, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was not handled by Kojima Productions, but by Platinum Games. He also reassured the public that Konami remains committed to making console games.
Kojima Productions, along with other internal companies in Konami, had their names changed due to restructuring, and Hideo Kojima’s name was removed from the game titles, which usually sport a sign saying “A Hideo Kojima Game”. Kojima however countered Konami taking out his name with some guerrilla autograph signings, reminding people he was the one responsible for the game.
