The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has announced the 21st inductee to their own Hall of Fame, and it is none other than Hideo Kojima, who had one roller coaster of a year last 2015, all thanks to his former employers. The news of his induction to The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences’s Gaming Hall of Fame comes as the beloved Japanese developer finally got released from Konami and is now making his own independent gaming studio.
According to AIAS president Martin Rae, “Hideo Kojima’s career-defining works have shaped much of how the video game industry approaches cinematic storytelling and player engagement,”and he added that . “As one of the most well-loved and well-respected designers of our time, it is a great honor for the Academy to induct him into our Hall of Fame. Hideo is a game creator whose eyes havealways looked towards the future, and we look forward to his thoughts on the D.I.C.E. Summit stage.”
Presenters who will be inducting people are also important, so who will induct Kojima to the hall of fame? Well, it’s none other than his friend, Pacific Rim and Hell Boy director, Guillermo del Toro, who he partnered with for the already-cancelled Silent Hills game.
Hall of Fame Inductees are people “who have been instrumental in the development of highly influential games and moving a particular genre forward. These individuals demonstrate the highest level of creativity and innovation, resulting in significant product influence on a scale that expands the scope of the industry.” Of course, Kojima is one of them. The inductees include Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, Valve’s Gabe Newell, BioWare founders Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka, and many more.
