The SGCafe List: 5 New anime which have stood out so far during Fall 2016

It’s already November, which means we are now a month into the new Fall 2016 anime season. While this new season is filled with returning anime like Haikyuu!!, Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans, Natsume’s Book of Friends, and Sound!! Euphonium, as well as spin-offs like WWW.WORKING!!! and ViViD Strike, several new titles have also managed to stand out.

In a sea of returning anime and spin-offs, we chose five new titles which we thought really stood out this season. It was a tough choice, but we finally agreed on these five new anime:

Gi(a)rlish Number

82291

This anime takes a look at the darker side of the anime industry, and focuses mainly on voice actors, or seiyuu. It shows a lot of things that usually happen behind the scenes, which anime companies usually don’t want people to know about, from series creators being looked down upon, and has his opinion taken for granted, with anime producers taking advantage of his shyness to impose their own changes to his work for the anime. It also presents the rivalries and relationships between voice actors, and that they don’t seem as friendly with each other in real life. As expected of an anime from the light novel author behind My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU.

Drifters

80271

After raising hell in Hellsing, manga creator Kouta Hirano’s return to anime has proven to be yet another bloody one, as the battle between the Drifters and the Ends have finally been adapted into an anime. It was as every bit as action-packed and bloody as we thought it would, and it has certainly raised the bar high for the other new anime this season.

Magical Girl Raising Project

81087

Clearly, one of the standouts this season, new anime or returning series. At first, this may seem like a typical Magical Girl anime, then things go downhill as the anime goes the Madoka Magica route and gets darker as the magical girls are forced to kill each other because there are too many of them.

March Comes in Like a Lion

79185

With excellent storytelling which focused on Rei’s relationships and trials, this new anime is starting to prove why its source manga by Chika Umino has won all those awards.

Keijo!!!!

Just kidding!!!!!!!

Izetta the Last Witch

82119

OK, while Keijo’s story is actually pretty serious (no really, if you ignore the fanservice, it really feels like a legit and serious shounen sports anime), Izetta the Last Witch is proving to be one of this season’s very best. With plenty of fantastical battle scenes, political intrigue, and lots and lots of yuri undertones (it’s a good thing), we’ve really fallen in love with this series, and feel that it stands out too.

so what do you think of our picks? Any other anime that you thought we missed?

Who is the best trap?! Japanese fans weigh in, and we are not surprised with #1!

Trap cosplayers may have been banned at the Tokyo Comic-Con, but Japan still loves them just the same. A poll in the Japanese rankings website, GOO, has asked 500 fans (250 male, 250 female), to vote for their favorite anime traps, or “otonoko” as they are often also referred to. There are a total of 49 entries, and here are the Top 20 (full results here: http://ranking.goo.ne.jp/column/article/3643/)

21/20 (tie) – Kaguya Arikawa (Himegoto) and Daruku Hoshino (Nanana’s Buried Treasure)

19 – Chihaya Kisakinomiya (Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru)

18 – Fei Zhui Lau (Sacred Seven)

17 – Nuriko (Fushigi Yugi)

16/15 (tie) – Kei Yuuki (Moyashimon) and Hiromi Sugita (ERASED)

14/13/12 (tie) – Hibari Oozora (Stop!! Hibari-kun!), Gasper Vladi (High School DXD), and Hasuta (Haiyore! Nyaruko-san!)

11- Ringo Tsukimiya (UtaPri)

10 – Felix “Ferris” Argyle (Re:Zero)

9 – Nagisa Shiota (Assassination Classroom)

8 – Monohoshi Dai ( High School! Kimengumi)

7 – Haku (Naruto)

6 – Honjo Kamatari (Rurouni Kenshin)

5 – Hime Arikawa

4 – Luka Urushibara (Steins; Gate)

3 – Saika Totsuka (My Teen Romatic Comedy SNAFU)

2 – Maraich Juschenfe (Patalliro!)

1 – Hideyoshi Kinoshita (Baka to Test)

hideyoshi-mistymaydawngos-place-31263140-1127-633

What?! Saika is only third?! Well, #1 is a bit predictable, but Patalliro!’s own resident trap managed to pull a slight upset over Hachiman’s dream girl friend. Other obvious entrants also made it to the Top 5, like Hime and Luka, while shounen anime stalwarts like Haku, Nagisa, and Kamatari also made the Top 10.

They certainly tried to stay true to the manga with the costumes, huh? The project will start off with the 4-episode TV series on December 4, before the TV special on January 8. This will then lead to the live-action film which is slated to premiere in February 2017.

The project was announced by Shounen Gangan magazine, and will based on Ritz Kobayashi’s popular mahjong manga series.

[VIDEO] Final evolutions for Gen 7 starters revealed, Red and Blue return

Pokemon just released a new video which contains some of their biggest announcements yet! The new video first introduces us to the final evolutionary forms of the three Alola starters. Meet Decidueye, Incineroar, and Primarina!

Ducideye seems like a Robin Hood-inspired Pokemon, and is actually a Grass/Ghost type, while Incineroar is NOT a fighting-type, but rather, a Fire/Dark type, and is actually inspired by pro-wrestling. This makes sense because Tiger Mask, one of Japan’s most iconic pro-wrestlers. Finally, Primarina is predictably a Water/Fairy type.

The video also introduces us to a new Psychic-type Pokemon known as Cosmog, Persion’s pure Dark-type Alola form, and three of the island guardians, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, and Tapu Fini. they also revealed the shared Z-Move of these island guardians. It also teased that you can team up with champions like Cynthia, as well as team up with famous trainers like Wally. However, one of the biggest news from the video seems to be the return of Red and Blue, who you can battle!

fghhhhhhfjyfg

They look all grown up now, don’t they? Meanwhile, Ash is still…

Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon will both be released on November 18, 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS. This will be for both Japan and North America, as the European release will be on November 23, 2016.

Chinese anime event features some rather ridiculous life-size statues

The Golden Autumn Comic Exhibition at the Viva Beijing R&F Plaza has now opened, however, several anime fans were quite shocked to see a few life-size anime statues that were quite,,, um… unique?

9e0655ad65a21a22431872e86123fedd1477495927_full

So yeah, that’s their life-size Naruto statue… or is it Boruto because of the hair and the letter “B”? There’s also “Eren” from Attack on Titan and “Ace” from One Piece.

bd508b13da532e68ff9d2aa808bd0e751477496277_full50273e3d6313b998908f786639113eea1477496426_full

The statues have some mixed reactions back in Japan, with some being angry, others amused, and others just rather confused. One company however, wasn’t too happy, as Pierrot China, which distributes Naruto in the country, has said that “the exhibition does not have the right to display any likenesses from the show.”

But if you’re around Beijing until the 16th of November, why not stop by and see if these life-size statues really look like the ones in the pictures…
