The Mayan civilization these days are known more for their 2012 doomsday calendar rather than their actual cultural achievements like their literature, art and architecture, most famous of which is the Chichen Itza pyramid in Mexico’s Yucatan region.

Is it just me or does Gyarados look a whole lot scarier and his bad-ass scale just went waaaaaaaaaay up?
The Legendary Lugia has a lot in common with the mythical Quetzalcoatl, the legendary Mayan god. Quetzalcoatl is often described as a cross between a snake and a bird and is often called the flying serpent. Serpents have always been associated with dragons, and while not a dragon-type Pokemon, Lugia does look like a combination of a bird and a dragon.
That ghost Pokemon who likes to mess with unsuspecting humans looks equally mischievous with this Mayan rendition
If you thought Gyrados looked Scary, take a look at these three.
