Shinomori Aoshi and Seta Sojiro cast for the new Rurouni Kenshin live-action films

Jump Square’s September issue revealed who will play favorite characters Aoshi Shinomori and Seta Sojiro in the second and third parts of the Rurouni Kenshin live-action trilogy coming out next summer. If you weren’t already excited that Tatsuya Fujiwara (Light Yagami from Death Note’s live-action film) is playing Shishio Makoto, then these next two additions to the crew will definitely pump you up.

For those of you who read the manga or watched the anime, I am sure you were just as surprised and confused as I was at Aoshi Shinomori’s absence from the first film. In fact, the whole Oniwanbanshu – the ninja group that Aoshi leads – wasn’t mentioned. Well, I cannot tell you how glad I am that Aoshi Shinomori will be in the second film, and he will be played by none other than Yusuke Iseya.

Just last month I watched director Takashi Miike’s 13 Assassins, a movie in which Yusuke played a very cool but comical fighter. However, you might better know Yusuke from Takashi Miike’s Sukiyaki Western: Django, or Hirokazu Koreeda’s Distance. He’ll be bringing more than a handsome to the set, to say the least.

Next we have Seta Sojiro, the cold killer that lies behind a cool smile. Shishio Makoto’s right-hand man, Sojiro’s soft and pleasant face belies the murderer within. Ryunosuke Kamiki will be taking this part, and he is more than qualified to do so. Ryunosuke is no newbie to live-action films, and has played in Tantei Gakuen Q, Honey & Clover, and most recently as Toro Rikiishi in Ashita no Joe.

So what do you think? Are these the right people for the job? Personally, as long as I get to see more Sexy Sagara Sanosuke, everything will be alright. And, of course, the acting should be good…and stuff.
