The Soul Eater manga series has finally ended this month with the latest issue of monthly Shounen Gangan, and to congratulate the manga’s successful and popular run as well as the manga’s author, Atsushi Ookubo for a job well done, various manga artists from both Shounen Gangan and other publications have drawn several commemorative illustrations.
The illustrations include characters like Edward Elric (Full Metal Alchemist), Index (To Aru Majutsu no Index), Inori (Guilty Crown) and more dressed up like Maka Albarn and holding Soul Eater Evans in weapon form… we even have Blood Lad‘s Staz trying to take Maka away from poor Soul.
The mangakas (manga artists) who wrote the congratulatory illustrations and messages to Atsushi Ookubo (大久保笃) for his success include other Shounen Gangan artists like Hiromu Arakawa (Full Metal Alchemist/ Silver Spoon, though Silver Spoon is serialized in Weekly Shounen Sunday), and Shinta Fujimoto (Red Raven). Other mangakas from other publications also joined in like Yuuki Kodama (Young Ace’s Blood Lad) and Huke (Black Rock Shooter the game/Black Rock Shooter: Innocent Soul).
Soul Eater was serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Shounen Gangan from June 2004 until August 2013. It inspired an anime adaptation which was not quite loyal to the original manga’s story from 2008-2009.
Atsushi Ookubo (大久保笃) also wrote a spin-off manga titled Soul Eater Not! which does not center around Soul and Maka but Tsugumi Harudori. The manga was also adapted into several video games for the Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2 and PSP.
