Bridge featured in Golden Time now the latest anime pilgrimage spot

Anime tourism has now become a big thing in Japan with various anime pilgrimage spots popping up in places which were featured in various anime like Lucky Star’s Washinomiya Shrine and Oarai which was the setting for Girls und Panzer. Now, a new anime pilgrimage site is recently being flocked by fans and it is the Hourai Bridge in Shimada, Minami in Shizuoka prefecture which is considered the world’s longest walking bridge by the Guiness Book of World Records.

The bridge look familiar? That’s because this bridge was used as a model for the one in the hit romantic comedy anime, Golden Time which was where main character Banri Tada lost all his memories while trying to confess his love for his childhood friend, Linda. The bridge has symbolized heartbreak for many fans of the series as it asks the question, “What could have been?”

The bridge was a popular tourist destination even before Golden Time first aired, but it has gained a lot of popularity in recent weeks thanks to the anime. It is a very old wooden bridge built way back in 1879 over the Oi river and was registered as the “World’s Longest Walking Bridge” by Guiness in 1997.

That bridge certainly bears a lot of pain from the anime, right? The ones cheering for “Team Linda” certainly think so. I wonder what “Team Koko” fans think?
