The old Japanese capital of Kyoto has been used as the setting for several anime like Ruruoni Kenshin (Kyoto arc against Shishio), Nura: Rise of the Youkai Clan, Hakuoki, the ongoing Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha and many others. With the rise of anime tourism in Japan, a new train going from the city to Kintetsu Nara train station is featuring four anime which proudly display the Kyoto’s beautiful old world charm.
The train travels along the Kintetsu Nara line and is decorated by the Kyoto-based anime in both the train’s interior and exterior. The four anime series chosen to best represent the city are historical anime “Hakuoki“, fantasy animes “The Eccentric Family” or Uchouten Kazoku and “Kyousougiga” as well as romance fantasy anime ”Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha”.
The train is promoting the anime appeal of the Kansai region as well as help nurture a younger generation of upcoming animators, artists and manga authors. The train is also part of the the public relations efforts of the Kyoto International Anime and Manga fair which is considered the largest anime and manga fair in Japan outside of Tokyo.
The train cars feature life-size versions of Kyousougiga’s Koto and Eccentric Family’s Yasaburou as well as several artworks from the four anime.
