Fans choose the Top 20 anime characters they want to name their kids after

Sometimes, we like naming our kids after historical figures like Napoleon and Aristotle, and sometimes, we name them after famous celebrities or after friends and relatives. However, have you ever thought about naming your kids after anime characters?

For this week’s Charapedia poll, the Japanese anime character database has asked 10,000 fans, 46.1% male, 63.9% female, about which anime characters do they want to name their kids after? Of the 185 characters included in the poll, they have announced the Top 20, and they are:

20) Ai Mikaze (UtaPri) Name to use: Ai

19) Kousei Arima (Your Lie in April) Name to use: Kousei

18) Nagisa Shiota (Assassination Classroom) Name to use: Nagisa

17) Kagura (Gintama)

16) Ryota Kise (Kuroko’s Basketball) Name to use: Ryota

15) Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach) Name to use: Ichigo

14) Syo Kurusu (UtaPri) Name to use: Syo

13) Yukino Tukinoshita (Oregairu) Name to use: Yukino

12) Futaba Yoshioka (Blue Spring Ride) Name to use: Futaba

11) Makoto Tachibana (Free!) Name to use: Makoto

10) Jotaro Kujo (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Name to use: Jotaro

9) Mikoto Misaka (A Certain series)

Name to use: Mikoto

8) Kosaki Onodera (Nisekoi)

Name to use: Kosaki

7) Sakura Kinomoto (Cardcaptor Sakura)

From the looks of things, people want to name their kids after Sword Art Online characters the most as Reki Kawahara’s bestselling series takes the #4 and the #1 spot in this week’s Charapedia poll. However, it seems that fans want to name their kids after Kirito’s real name instead of his in-game name, and as for Asuna, she uses her real name as her in-game name so we wouldn’t really know if fans want to name their kids after Asuna herself, or her in-game avatars

Meanwhile, the ladies (who took the majority number of the voters) have spoken as three of the Top 5 are from shows very popular with women. And certainly, the three characters in question are very much popular with the ladies themselves.
