Kizumonogatari to be a movie trilogy, first part scheduled for January 2016

After four years of waiting, we will finally see the anime adaptation of NisiOisin’s prequel light novels for his critically-acclaimed Monogatari series next year. And as the Kizumonogatari Movie official website countdown timer reaches zero, it is revealed that Kizumonogatari will be a trilogy, along with first anime movie’s key visual image.

The first movie will be titled “Tekketsu-hen” (Ⅰ鉄血篇) or “Iron-Blooded”, and definitely not to be confused with the latest Gundam anime, Iron-Blooded Orphans. “Tekketsu-hen” is slated to premiere on January 1, 2015 and advance movie tickets will be sold starting October 9, 2015. Tickets will cost 1,300 yen.

The second movie will be titled Nekketsu-hen (熱血篇) while the third movie will be titled Reiketsu-hen (冷血篇). Announcements about these two other movies will be made in the future, and hopefully won’t take us four more years. The website also announced the staff and cast, with Akiyuki Shinbo returning at the helm of the Monogatari series over at Shaft as chief director so expect plenty of head tilting. Meanwhile, here are the cast members:

Koyomi Araragi: Hiroshi Kamiya

Kiss-Shot-Acerola-Orion-Heart-Under-Blade: Maaya Sakamoto

Tsubasa Hanekawa: Yui  Horie

Meme Oshino: Takahiro Sakurai

That very official website was launched back in 2011, which was also when the anime movie adaptation of Kizumonogatari was announced. The film was originally slated for 2012, and then Fall 2013, and then it was put on hold indefinitely. The movie meanwhile will be set before the events of Bakemonogatari where Koyomi Araragi first meets the deadly vampire named Kiss-Shot-Acerola-Orion-Heart-Under-Blade, who will eventually become Shinobu Oshino.
