The manga industry, and the entire anime fandom, was shocked when the former editor of one of today’s hottest manga, Attack on Titan, was suddenly arrested, and the crimes he’s accused of shouldn’t be taken lightly.
41-year old Chonhyon Park previously worked as the manga editor for Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan manga, and has been one of the people who are truly responsible for the franchise’s success. He is now the assistant editor-in-chief of Kodansha‘s Morning magazine, however, he is now the suspect of murder, accused of strangling his wife, Kanako Park, to death.
According to a police report, Park strangled his wife last August 9 in their home in Tokyo. Apparently, the manga editor called emergency services to report that his wife suddenly collapsed at home. She was rushed to the hospital but was dead upon arrival. However, the autopsy has shown that she was strangled, and Park apparently claimed that her wife committed suicide. Video evidence suggests that nobody else has entered their home on the night of the murder other than Park, which lead to Park being the prime suspect. During the night of the murder, the entire family, including the four children, were at home.
Kodansha, which employs Park, released a statement saying that while Park has maintained his innocence, they are still awaiting the results of the investigation and are dealing with the incident with caution.
