The world’s largest doujinshi fair is already up and running and a lot of things have happened at Comiket 84′s first day… crazy things. With more than 210,000 people in attendance during day one, here’s a look at some of the shenanigans (and accidents) from yesterday’s 1st day.
On the first day alone, an estimated 11,800 circles dealing with doujinshi, manga and anime exhibited some of their finest works to the staggering number of people attending the event. The event, which started yesterday, August 10 and will end tomorrow, August 12 has been one of the biggest geek fests in the world since 1975. Here’s how crazy things were. See that sea of humanity? I have seen a lot of huge gatherings in my time but not like this.
We mentioned earlier that the temperature for yesterday, August 10 will be hot right? Like 37 ° Celsius (98.6 ° Fahrenheit)? Well, as this temperature reading shows, it was a lot hotter than that, factor in the sheer number of people and this 40.6 ° Celsius temperature reading just won’t be enough to measure how hot it really was yesterday.
And with a record number of people attending, the blazing summer heat was sure to affect a lot of people. Reports have came in that Tokyo Big Sight’s first aid room was jam packed and full of people who have collapsed, dehydrated or suffered from heat stroke. The Comiket organizers have already warned people of the intense heat but with this many people in the same place in such a hot temperature, it is sure to cause some problems.
But even the heatwave was not able to deter fans from going all out and buying some limited ed. goodies from the circles and company booths. Shaft, one of the big names setting up shop during the event have reportedly sold out all of their merchandise in a matter of hours. Yes, unfortunately, those mouth-watering Shaft goodies have already sold out, sorry guys.
And Shaft wasn’t the only one which had a sell out on day 1, some Kiniro Mosaic goodies were also reported to have sold out.
It is guaranteed that every geekfest has to have some crazy stuff happening like Deadpool trolling everyone during San Diego Comic Con, Comiket 84 is no different. If you thought the crowd and the heat were crazy enough…
He may be a tough delinquent dude, but damn this is kawaii!
Wait, those caps aren’t accurate!
I don’t even want to ask…
