Report: Hideo Kojima has officially left Konami, but Metal Gear rights remain with company (updated)

After all the drama, all the controversies, it seems that the bizarre saga between video game legend, Hideo Kojima, and Konami, are now at an end. This is according to a new report by the Japanese newspaper, Nikkei, which stated that Kojima has already left Konami with a few Kojima Productions team members.

According to the Nikkei report, Hideo Kojima officially left the company yesterday, December 15, 2015, however, the rights to the Metal Gear franchise, will be remaining with Konami. As he can’t go with his signature game, he will be making a new title together with his former team, and he is now in the final stages in negotiating with Sony to be able to make games for the various PlayStation platforms. He is also making a new studio, which he will be making with his former team who are also reportedly now former-Konami employees.


UPDATE: Konami has confirmed that Kojima has officially left the company. This is according to a statement by a Konami PR official who stated that Hideo Kojima left the company because his contract has expired. He also thanked everyone for supporting Metal Gear.


The bizarre events between Hideo Kojima and Konami have been escalating for a few months now, culminating to the game creator being barred from receiving an award during the Game Awards.
