Yomiuri Shimbun has announced the winners for the 2016 edition of their annual Sugoi Japan Awards. The winners of these awards are works which fans feel that need foreign attention, and should be used to promote Japan. The categories are divided into anime, manga, light novels, and entertainment novels, and here are the winners:
Manga Category:
5 – Monster Musume by Okayado
4 – Twittering Birds Never Fly by Kou Yoneda
3 – Haikyuu!! by Haruichi Furudate
2 – Tokyo Ghoul by Sui Ishida
1- One-Punch Man by ONE and Yuusuke Murata
Anime Category:
5 – Psycho-Pass movie
4 – Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun
3 – My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO!
2 – Shirobako
1 – Your Lie in April
Light Novel Category
5 – SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist by Hirotaka Akagi
4 – Overlord by Kugane Maruyama
3 – Amagi Brilliant Park by Shoji Gatoh
2 – Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend by Fumiaki Maruto
1 – Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? by Fujino Oomori
Entertainment Novel Category
5 – BEATLESS by Satoshi Hase
4 – Man-Gan by Honobu Yonezawa
3 – Alice Koroshi by Yasumi Kobayashi
2 – Kaidantou by Yutaka Kouno
1 – The Empire of Corpses by Project Itoh and Toh Enjoe
These works were selceted out of 92 entries, which were then voted on by both fans and industry experts alike. Thye works nominated must have potential to become international hits in order to be considered. Last year, Attack on Titan won for the manga category, Madoka Magica won for the anime category, and My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU won for the LN category.
