2017 will be a huge year for Sword Art Online fans, as the SAO movie, Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale will be shown during that time, and ANIPLEX USA has started streaming the very first teaser PV for the upcoming film:
The film will feature an original story which will be set in a brand new game called “Ordinal Scale,” which uses a new augmented reality device known as “Augma.” According to the film’s official website, AR (Augmented Reality) Type Information Terminal “Augma” is a next-generation, wearable multi-device that looks like a pair of small headphones. In terms of size and portability, it is far superior to the existing VR machine “Amusphere.” Augma doesn’t have a full-dive function, however, its AR function is greatly enhanced to compensate for it. It can transmit visual, audio and tactual sensation data to players while they are awake, thus enabling the users to enjoy fitness and health management like a game. Here is the film’s visual, which is illustrated by SAO light novel illustrator, ABEC.
The film will be taking place after the events of the Mother’s Rosario arc, and is set to hit theaters in Japan in 2017. Since an English website and an English trailer have been released, an international release has also been planned, but not much details on that have been revealed yet.
