Netflix is adapting Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s suspense thriller classic, Death Note, into a live-action Hollywood movie, and they have revealed the cast playing the characters inspired by the manga, with some expected name alterations.
Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns) as Light Turner (Light Yagami)
Keith Stanfield (Short Term 12, Straight Outta Compton) as L
Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers) as Mia Sutton
Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire) as James Turner
Paul Nakauchi (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as Watari
The film will be directed by The Guest’s Adam Wingard, while Jeremy Slater is penning the script. Netflix will be streaming the film in 2017.
This will be the latest in the list of live-action adaptations to the classic manga, which includes a Japanese movie series, a live-action J-drama, and several stage musicals. The manga also inspired a much-loved anime adaptation.
