Back in 2013, Hayao Miyazaki announced that he is retiring from making feature-length anime movies. However, the Academy Award-winning director was still making animated shorts like Boro the Caterpillar for the Ghibli Museum. The director was really just semi-retired, but it seems that he still really wants to do feature-length films. And now, Studio Ghibli producer, Toshio Suzuki, just confirmed that he’s coming out of semi-retirement!
The Ghibli producer and close friend to Miyazaki recently sat down in a pre-Academy Awards interview for the Oscar-nominated The Red Turtle. During the interview, Suzuki confirmed that Miyazaki himself is working on a new feature-length anime film.
Suzuki said that Miyazaki is in Tokyo right now working on this latest project. He also said that they are trying to get that new Miyazaki film released before the 2020 Olympics.
