Bushiroad President says Idol Boom is now over, prepare for "Band Boom"

The Idol Boom introduced us to plenty of idol anime, from iDOLM@STER to Love Live! to Wake Up Girls to Macross Delta. However, according to the president and founder of card game company, Bushiroad, Takaaki Kidani, that “Idol Boom” is now over. Bushiroad recently launched a Love Live-style band anime anime called BanG Dream, and he says that it’s now time for band anime to shine!

In a column found in the official Bushiroad website, Kidani says that he thinks that the Idol Boom ended this year. he said that while second generation idol series like love Live! and iDOLM@STER would continue to be popular, he said that third generation franchises might not do as well. He said that the idol genre (which is a sub genre of the musical genre) is already too saturated, and added that future games and anime might not succeed.

He said that his company is now at the forefront of the latest Japanese pop culture trend, and that is the so-called “Band Boom”, with their latest franchise, BanG Dream. He said that after they revealed the multimedia franchise, he heard of many other band-related projects popping up. He then said that he would be happy if BanG Dream would become the genre’s forerunner.

In his column, the Bushiroad president also admitted that he cried after he heard the song “Star Beat! ~Hoshi no Kodou~”, which is the second single by Poppin’ Party, BanG Dream’s in-story band. He said that he never cried about anything in regards to anime before listening to the song.

BanG Dream is currently airing as part of the ongoing Winter 2017 anime season.
