It is officially the awards season, and UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, California has just hosted one of the most prestigious awards in the animation industry, the Annie Awards. During the awarding ceremony, Studio Ghibli’s The Red Turtle topped two other Japanese films, Miss Hokusai and the Makoto Shinkai’s blockbuster hit, your name.
The Michaël Dudok de Wit-directed feature won the “Best Animated Feature-Independent”. Aside from its two Japanese co-nominees, the film also beat out My Life as a Zucchini and Long Way North to win.
Meanwhile, Zootopia won a total of six awards, including Best Animated Feature Film, and Adventure Time won Best Animated TV/Broadcast Production for Children. Bob’s Burgers won Best General Audience Animated Television/Broadcast Production and Best Writing in an Animated Television / Broadcast Production.
