These days, reboots are everywhere, from movies to TV shows to comics, I mean, the Spider-Man movies are getting rebooted for the Nth time already! The same is being done in Japan, as several anime are getting reboots themselves.
As some anime are getting their own reboots, such as Space battleship Yamato getting rebooted for Space Battleship Yamato 2199, many are asking for updated versions of some classic anime as well, and that has become the subject of a new poll by animeanime.jp, as they asked 475 readers to vote for the anime they want to see a reboot of, particularly anime from Japan’s Showa-era (1926-1989) . Here are the Top 10 from that poll:
9/10 (tie) – Armored Trooper VOTOMS, Space Adventure Cobra
8 – Gunbuster
7 – Aoki Ryuusei SPT Layzner
6 – Captain Tsubasa
5 – Sherlock Hound
4 – Dragon Ball
3 – Akira
2 – Super Dimension Fortress Macross
1 – Galaxy Express 999
Galaxy Express 999 is a classic, and fans made their voices heard when they voted it as the classic Showa Era anime they want to see a reboot of, beating out the very first Macross anime, Super Dimension Fortress Macross, which would not only be a hit among mecha fans, but idol anime fans as well if it were given a reboot.
Akira and Dragon Ball are also classics of their own, and it really does seem that fans want to see the adventures of a young Son Goku using modern animation techniques, as well as Akira, which prophesied that Tokyo would win the bid for the 2020 Olympics… but the world might end.
So, which old school anime from the Showa era do you want to see a reboot of?
