A moving robotic Hatsune Miku doll is being developed

Japanese doll and figure company, Volks, has teamed up with technology company, Speecys, to create a special robotic doll of the virtual diva herself, Hatsune Miku, and it will be unveiled during the Magical Mirai 2016 event, to be held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba from September 9 – 11.

The doll will contain a small computer called the Linux Raspberry Pi 3, which can make the doll itself move along with the MikuMikuDance (MMD) program, which is a dance program now available via Steam. This new Miku doll has 28 points of articulation, and that computer will be helping her move those joints accordingly with the program.

The doll will be about 60cm tall, and boasts soft skin to go with her technological specs. She will be part of Volks’ new Dollfie Honey line of dolls.

This is a different project from Good Smile Company’s own robotic Nendoroid Hatsune Miku, which will not only dance, but also sing.

Now, if you will excuse me, I think it’s time to prepare my wallet and brace for impact for this Magical Mirai 2016…
