The SGCafe List: The NEW Fall 2016 Anime we are most excited about

The current Summer 2016 season is almost over, and as the upcoming Fall 2016 season prepares to take over, we take a look at seven new anime we are really excited to check out. These seven new anime are all new titles which haven’t had any anime adaptations prior to next season, and are not spin-offs of any existing anime adaptations. This means that there are no sequel or spin-off anime in this list, like Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Season 2 and Sound! Euphonium Season 2.

After a whole lot of arguing among ourselves, we’ve all agreed on these seven new anime, and they are:

March Comes in Like a Lion

While we found difficulty in choosing which anime to include in our list, we all agreed on March Comes in Like a Lion without any resistance at all, as we are all excited to see this anime. Based on Chica Umino’s bestselling, critically-acclaimed, and multi-award-winning manga, the story follows a young shougi player named Rei, who matures as the story progresses, as well as his relationship to his neighbors, the Kawamoto sisters, Akari, Hinata, and Momo.

Girlish Number

In Japan, voice acting is a huge industry, and some are even treated like rock stars, with huge fan followings around the world. However, getting that superstar status as a voice actress is tough in Japan, and that is where the story of the main protagonist, Chitose Karasuma, comes along. She is a university student aiming at becoming a seiyuu, and she certainly has a tough road ahead of her. The series is actually part of a new multimedia franchise, which also includes a light novel written by My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU light novel creator, Wataru Watari, as well as a manga.

Based on Hellsing creator, Kouta Hirano’s alternate history manga, Drifters promises a whole lot of violence as it pits some of history’s most famous and influential figures against one another in a war for supremacy. One side features the Drifters, which is comprised of Oda Nobunaga, Scipio Africanus, Hannibal Barca, Butch Cassidy, The Sundance Kid, and more, while the other side, the Ends, feature Hijikata Toushizou, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, J’eanne D’Arc, and more. Oh, and it promises to be a bloodbath too!

Touken Ranbu -Hanamaru-

Based on the highly popular browser game by Nitroplus and DMM, Touken Ranbu is considered the Kantai Collection for girls, as it features anthropomorphic swords as handsome young men. Expect some very beautiful animation for Touken Ranbu -Hanamaru-, as the series will be animated by none other than ufotable, which is known for beautiful animation sequences and thrilling action. Who here is excited for the Sword Boys?

The Great Passage

The Great Passage is the latest addition to the Noitamina Animation Bloc, which featured such classics like Honey & Clover, AnoHana, and many others. The anime follows the employees of the publishing company, Genbu Shobou, as they work to compile a medium-sized Japanese dictionary titled “The Great Passage”.

Occultic; Nine

If you liked the Science Adventure visual novels like Steins;Gate, Chaos;Head, Chaos;Child, and Robotics;Notes, then you might like Occultic;Nine, as the anime will be based on Steins;Gate creator, Chiyomaru Shikura’s light novel series of the same name. Though it is not considered a part of the Science Adventure Game series, the series has been described to have a similar feel to them. The series will follow nine characters, all of whom have connections with the occult, and they must work together to solve a mystery.

Kiss Him, Not Me

What happens when a fujoshi becomes the center of her own reverse harem of handsome young men? She ships them with each other of course! The anime is based on Junko’s bestselling and award-winning shoujo manga series, which follows Kae Serinuma, an overweight fujoshi who suddenly loses a ton of weight. Her sudden weight loss results to various guys getting attracted to her, however, she’s just not interested in them and would rather have her suitors go out with each other than with her.

So that’s it, our picks for NEW anime to watch out for next season. Tune in tomorrow as we take a look at the sequels and spin-offs that we are most excited about for next season!
