While most anime viewers tend to only view OP sequences, the ED songs are just as important. Much like their OP counterparts, good ED sequences have to be a good marriage of great animation, timed perfectly with the beats of the ED theme song, as well as the anime’s theme itself.
In a follow-up to their previous Top 10 Best Anime OP sequences poll, Japanese anime news website, Animeanime.jp, has asked 766 anime watchers about their favorite anime ED sequences. Here are the results:
10: “futuristic imagination” by School Food Punishment (Eden of the East)
9: “Orphans no Namida” by MISIA (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans)
8: “Wind” by Akeboshi (Naruto)
7: “HIDE AND SEEK” by Kenichi Suzumura (Handa-kun)
6: “Trust Me” by Yuuya Matsushita (Durarara!!)
5: “Refrain Boy” by ALL OFF (Mob Psycho 100)
4: “Tutti!” by the Kitauji Quartet / Tomoyo Kurosawa, Ayaka Asai, Chika Anzai, & Moe Toyota (Sound! Euphonium)
3: “Namae no nai Kaibutsu” by EGOIST (Psycho-Pass)
2: “Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari” by supercell (Bakemonogatari)
1: “Sugar Song to Bitter Step” by UNISON SQUARE GARDEN (Blood Blockade Battlefront)
While most people just stop watching when the ED sequence starts, there are a few which have gained notoriety, including UNISONG SQUARE GARDEN’s Blood Blockade Battlefront ED, and it taking the #1 spot is hardly surprising, as many fans have said that it has set the standard for many good ED songs.
In rare cases, ED songs would often overshadow their OP counterparts, and for many fans, that rings true for Bakemonogatari, which features one OP sequence for each heroine, but only one main ED, and that ED has become one of the most memorable ones to date.
