shingekinokyojinthereal Universal Studios in Osaka to exhibit Attack on Titan attractions and more

Have you ever wondered about horrors experienced by the people within the walls when they encounter human-devouring titans?

Well, you won’t exactly experience the same feeling, but it’s very close with the upcoming Attack on Titan exhibition to be held in Universal Studios in Osaka.

The theme park will have a ride called “Shingeki no Kyojin The Real” which promises the “terror and despair” felt by the protagonists of the popular 2013 TV anime.

This grand event is part of the “Universal Cool Japan” exhibition which will be held from January 23 until May 10 next year. Other attractions will also be featured, including displays from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.

"Psycho-Pass: New Edit Version" episode 4 skipped due to recent Nagasaki murder case

psychopassneweditversionep4canceled Psycho Pass: New Edit Version episode 4 skipped due to recent Nagasaki murder case

The recent murder case in which a female student murdered her classmate shocked not only Japan, but also the entire world. And with this saddening incident, Psycho-Pass producers decided to omit the 4th episode of the New Edit Version which has scenes of juvenile crimes.

The website only states “schedule reasons,” but the official Twitter account of the TV anime has a detailed explanation:

Crunchyroll translation:

“It is decided that the content of the 4th chapter of ‘Psycho-Pass: New Edit Version,’ which was scheduled to be aired this week, is not appropriate to air in the current situation, so we have moved up the 5th episode instead. We ask for your kind understanding. There is no plan for the episode to be aired in the future.”

SGCafe goes to Wonder Festival 2014 (Summer) Part III: How to survive WonFes

2014′s final Wonder Festival may already be over, but the experience me and fellow SGCafe writer Zenko had had was simply unforgettable. We made several minor mistakes at the event, but we treated it as part of an awesome learning experience, and we would like to impart a few of the things we have learned in our very first Wonder Festival.

SAM 40831 500x375 SGCafe goes to Wonder Festival 2014 (Summer) Part III: How to survive WonFes SAM 4084 500x375 SGCafe goes to Wonder Festival 2014 (Summer) Part III: How to survive WonFes

First, before going there, make sure you wake up early and stock up on things to drink to keep yourself hydrated, especially during the Summer WonFes. You have to wake up early because others have camped out during the night to be the very first ones in line to buy the event-exclusive items. We arrived there two hours before the event and the line to get in was already too long.

You also have to drink lots of fluids, especially that long wait under the sun. And when you get inside, the air conditioner will get you reprieve from the heat for a bit, but the sea of humanity inside will make it hot once everyone is inside. Also, the lines for both the vending machines and the food booths are long, so stocking up on water, juice, or sports drinks would be great.

SAM 4085 500x375 SGCafe goes to Wonder Festival 2014 (Summer) Part III: How to survive WonFes

It would also be very wise to come with somebody to the event. Going at it alone will hold you back, but if you have someone with you, he/she can cover the areas you are missing. So you want to buy the exclusives from Good Smile Company and Medicom? Have your partner line-up at Medicom’s booth while you do GSC. In the case for me and Zenko, we also split the work as she lined up for the booths while I took pictures. Teamwork is necessary and I am very thankful she was there with me inside Makuhari Messe.

SAM 4088 500x375 SGCafe goes to Wonder Festival 2014 (Summer) Part III: How to survive WonFes

Taking pictures of the Wonder Festival figure displays has its own rules to follow. First, and most important is to wait your turn. There are a few displays which seem like a mess when it comes to the people taking pictures, but please be respectful to those who have come before you as it may not seem like it, but there is a first-come, first-serve basis. Some displays also have proper ques, especially in GSC’s booths. Naturally, if you see one, then fall in line until you see the figure.

There are also several figures which are not allowed to be photographed. A staff member is right beside the figure guarding it so be careful. Some of them can be identified easily as their names are written in red. Names written in black are ok red ones are a no go.

You also have to be very fast if you want to take a picture as some of the figures will be taken out of the display area after a few hours.

Wonder Festival’s true stars may be the independent garage kit builders who show up during the event to make a name for themselves. Do not be afraid of them as each person who would visit their booths will make them very happy. They are also very nice people who will not hesitate to accommodate you.

SAM 43691 500x375 SGCafe goes to Wonder Festival 2014 (Summer) Part III: How to survive WonFes

The figures and indies may be the main course, but there are cosplayers during the event as well. There are a few unwritten rules when taking photos of them though, and they must be followed strictly.

Like the figures, you have to wait your turn when taking photos of them. Don’t worry, they will be more than happy to pose for you… Some cosplayers  however are so popular that the Que would be worth more than an hour.

There are also cosplayers walking around the event, however, some of them may not pose for a picture as they may be just taking a break and enjoying the event. There is also a rest area for cosplayers, so whatever you do, never ask them for pictures when they are there. There are some cosplayers like Space Dandy who won’t mind though, just be polite and ask.

SAM 42881 500x375 SGCafe goes to Wonder Festival 2014 (Summer) Part III: How to survive WonFes

Finally, bringing kids is OK, however, there is an adult-only area for the event so do be careful not to let them wander off near that area. They have an ID check though, and people over 18 can enter.

Fate/strange fake getting a full series

It may have started as an April Fool’s prank in TYPE-MOON, but now Fate/strange fake is getting a very real serialization.

WonFes wasn’t the only event going on this weekend, as the Fate Project team also held a conference showing off their plans for this year. One of those plans includes the continuation of Fate/strange fake, which will go from short story to full light novel and manga series sometime this winter. Much like the short story it’s based on, TYPE-MOON will be collaborating with Dengeki Bunko for both forms.

Shizuki Morii is returning as the artist for the manga series, after illustrating the prank version. Also, unlike past series this one will be set in the American west, and focuses on the idea of a “hero” being corrupted, resulting in no real heroes. Some familiar faces will of course be returning, such as Gilgamesh. Here’s a peak at what his manga form will look like.

Casting revealed for Death Note the Musical

Back in December we found out that Death Note would be getting a musical adaptation set for 2015, and now we know who will be playing Light Yagami.

Light is probably best known for his dramatic poses, so fans are probably hoping his role will be in good hands and it is. It’s in two sets of hands, in fact, as Light’s role is being double cast, meaning there will be two different actors set to play him at different performances.

The first actor will be Kenji Urai, who made his professional debut in Kamen Rider Kuuga. After that, he went on to star as the sixth generation Tuxedo Mask in the Sailor Moon musical, so you know he’ll be able to handle all the elaborate poses Light tends to strike.

The second actor will be Hayato Kakizawa who garnered a lot of attention with his most recent role in Kaiji 2.

SGCafe goes to Wonder Festival 2014 (Summer) part II: The Cosplayers and non-figure displays

Wonder Festival ain’t just about the figures and garage kits, but it is also a time for when cosplayers from not only Japan but there were some foreigners as well. As me and fellow SGCafe writer Zenko continued our WonFes 2014 (Summer) journey, we now take a look at several of the cosplayers present during the event.

One of the cosplayers who got a lot of attention was this Space Dandy Cosplayer who got into a tussle with Good Smile Company’s recently unveiled mutant cockroach from the upcoming SciFi thriller, Terra Formars. Even the Winderful Hobby Life For You booth staff were laughing out loud with his antics, and he was more than kind enough to pose for us too!
