Legendary manga creator Leiji Matsumoto is about to celebrate 60 years as a mangaka (manga author/ artist) and he is celebrating it in style by launching a manga about one of his most successful titles, Captain Harlock.
The announcement will be made with the release of the September issue of Champion Red Magazine. The announcement states that the new manga will begin in the next issue of the magazine which will be released on August 19, 2014. The new series will be titled Captain Harlock ~Jigen Kōkai~ (Captain Harlock: Dimensional Voyage) and it will be a 50-page chapter with color pages and it is illustrated by Kouichi Shimahoshi.
The issue will also include another Harlock manga titled Uchuu Kaizoku Captain Harlock ~Ginga Seijo Lunāra~ (Space Pirate Captain Harlock: Galactic Saint Lunāra) which will also be done by Matsumoto himself and it will also feature color pages.
Matsumoto is known for creating not only the Captain Harlock series, but also Galaxy Express 999 and of course, Space Battleship Yamato. He started his career as a mangaka when he was still a first year high school student in 1954 with Mitsubachi no Bouken (Adventures of the Honeybee). He is also known for creating several music videos for the French duo, Daft Punk.
