Shizuoka is the home to the Bandai Hobby Center, and has become a pilgrimage spot for plastic modelers and Gundam fans alike. The city is also home to one of the biggest hobby events on Earth, the Shizuoka Hobby Show, and for this year’s edition, some of the biggest names in the industry have flocked to the Twin Messe Shizuoka to show off their upcoming and released goodies, which range from figures to plastic model kits, to modeling equipment. It is held from May 12 – 15, with the first two days dedicated to media and industry personnel, while the latter two days being open to the general public.
One of the biggest names in the event is definitely Bandai, and their Hobby Division has certainly shown up to impress, revealing their new GunPla like MG 1/100 Full Armor Gundam Ver. Ka, RG 1/144 Sinanju, HGBF 1/144 Pandaguy, HGBF 1/155 Gyancelot, and many more. They also revealed some character busts featuring characters from the various Gundam series, as part of their Figure-Rise! bust series. They also teased the latest addition to their Re/100 series, and the prize for winning the GunPla Builders World Cup!
But we all know that Bandai ain’t just about the GunPla, as they also showed off their other plastic model kits, which include the latest ones from the new Macross Delta, as well as kits for Dragon Ball Z, Yo-Kai Watch, Disney, and many more.
For Tomy, Tamiya, and Hasegawa, turn to Page 2
However, it ain’t just Bandai who impressed, as other companies like TOMY showed off their latest products, including brand new Transformers Masterpiece figures, as well as new ZOIDS model kits, and many more.
Meanwhile, over at Hasegawa, they showed off their usual military kits, together with the original Macross.
As expected, Tamiya showed their own military and civilian vehicle model kits with their Mini 4WD models.
For Aoshima and Kadokawa, turn to Page 3
Aoshima’s booth has been a combination of figures, from Funny Knights’ upcoming kanColle figures, to Aoshima’s own line of military and civilian vehicle model kits. They even announced a new concept for a Macross mecha girl, which is part-figure, part model kit!
Meanwhile, the ASCII Media Works and Kadokawa booth payed tribute to Mobile Suit gundam, Space Battleship Yamato 2199, and Super Robot Wars with some nice customized kits:
