Machi★Asobi Vol. 16: Anime takes over the city of Tokushima, Japan!

Tokushima’s bi-annual anime extravaganza known as Machi★Asobi has finally kicked off last May 3 with its latest edition, Machi★Asobi Vol. 16, and the city has been taken over by anime, video games, itashas, and cosplayers once again.

The event featured plenty of anime-related activities, including a My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU exhibition by Studio feel.

In Machi Asobi, it is a tradition that anime characters be featured doing the Awa Dance, and this time, it’s the idols of iDOLM@STER donning the traditional costumes. Voice actress, Eriko Nakamura, who is known for voicing best known for voicing iDOLM@STER’s Haruka Amami, was also part of the unveiling.

One of the event’s highlights is the Anime Art Gallery Under the Bridges, a round-trip river cruise takes you on an unusual anime art tour under the bridge, accompanied by anime songs. Only taking place in the Spring Machi★Asobi, this year’s edition also features a taste of the upcoming Touken Ranbu anime by ufotable, as well as Girls und Panzer, Haifuri, Bungou Stray Dogs, My Hero Academia, several upcoming Fate anime, and many more.









And speaking of Fate, a brand new official Fate itasha was revealed, along with an official cosplayer. Voice actress, Mai Kadowaki, who attended a panel for the upcoming Fate/ Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 3rei, posted several images of her having fun in her twitter page,

And finally, Machi★Asobi ain’t just about the anime, as it highlighted several gaming booths as well, including Capcom and Sega.









Tokushima is one of the most hallowed cities for anime tourists in Japan, and every spring and autumn, the city hosts Machi★Asobi, which is considered one of Japan’s most popular anime festivals. The event is organized by none other than ufotable studio head, Hikaru Kondo, whose studio is responsible for hit anime like Fate/ Zero, Fate/ Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (TV), and the God Eater TV anime. The event attracts visitors from all over Japan, and more recently, from other parts of the world.
