July 7, 2014 in the Japanese calendar is known as Tanabata, the Japanese star festival which celebrates the meeting of the Japanese deities Orihime and Hikoboshi. The Monogatari series is also celebrating the star festival their own way by invading Gamers Akihabara.
Gamers Akihabara’s seventh floor was dedicated to Monogatari’s Tanabata celebration and their exhibition also included several previews of the upcoming Hanamonogatari anime which will be shown as a marathon in August 16, 2014.
Tanabata is usually celebrated by writing your wishes on a piece of paper called tanzaku and tying it up a bamboo tree. The event also features a tanabata bamboo complete with the tanzaku written by some of the people who visited the limited-time only exhibition. A writing area for those who want to write their Tanabata wishes has also been placed and it features the cute loli vampire, Shinobu.
Life-size standees of the Monogatari heroines were also on display and fans were allowed to take pictures with them. Six of the heroines – Nadeko, Tsubasa, Mayoi, Shinobu, Hitagi, and Suruga were all present.
NisiOisin’s Monogatari light novels were also on display and they included the original books, Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Kizumonogatari, Nekomonogatari, and many more. Original illustrations from the light novels and anime series were also put on display.
The Tanabata wishes of the Monogatari characters were one of the highlights of the exhibition. these are the tanzaku from 2013.
The Monogatari Tanabata museum will only be held at Gamers Akihabara until today, July 7, 2014, which is the very day of Tanabata.
