Sailor Moon Crystal made one of the biggest anime premieres in history as it garnered over a million views in just the first two days of streaming in the Japanese streaming website Nico Nico Douga alone. The anime also had several launch events held during the same day in other areas of the world like the Japan Expo 2014 in Paris, France and the Anime Expo 2014 in Los Angeles, California. We take a look at some of them.
In Paris, the City of Love was given a special treat as the cast of the Sailor Moon live action musical gave them an unforgettable performance during the Japan Expo.
The French crowd were thrilled with the cast’s performance with inevitable shrieks when Tuxedo Mask greeted them with a “bonjour!”. After their performance, they then said their thanks with a “Merci!” before finally showing them the first four minutes of the new Sailor Moon Crystal anime. The cast also visited the Pika Booth in costume.
The Bandai Namco Games booth meanwhile showcased several Sailor Moon cosmetics along with some Sailor Moon cosplayers
In Japan, street fashion brand Spinns held a fashion show in honor of the new anime and featured models wearing several Sailor Moon collaboration clothes and accessories.
Meanwhile in Los Angeles, fans flocked the Sailor Moon booth and the Viz Media booth during the Anime Expo 2014. During the event, they showed the new OP sequence which featured “Moon Pride” by Momoiro Clover Z as well as Usagi’s transformation scene. A panel discussion and photography session with Sailor Moon cosplayers were also held.
Now that is some “Moon Pride”. Viewing the series via Niconico Douga will be free for the first two weeks, but after that, it will become pay-per-view. It premiered last July 5, 2014 and is available in 12 different languages.
