Japanese publishing giant Shogakukan has announced that their Big Comic Original manga magazine will be doing a special edition celebrating 60 years of destruction and mayhem caused by the iconic King of the Monsters himself, Godzilla, and several big name manga artists have signed in to draw several illustrations of the big guy himself.
The special manga magazine was released last July 10, 2014 and not only 60 years of “Big G”, but also Big Comic Original’s 40th anniversary, giving the magazine a cumulative 100 year anniversary for both the magazine and Godzilla.
The manga artists who have signed up to draw illustrations of the iconic monster include Rumiko Takahashi who is known for InuYasha, Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura and Naoki Urasawa who is known for Master Keaton, 20th Century Boys, and Monster. Yasuo Ohtagaki (Moonlight Mile) and Oda Tobira (Danchi Tomoo) are also drawing Godzilla along with many other Shogakukan manga artists.
Part of the 60th anniversary celebrations included the 2014 Hollywood movie which not only smashed cities, but the worldwide box office as well. The Hollywood movie version just made landfall in Japan which gave the Kaiju King a spectacular homecoming worthy of such an iconic movie character. Also part of the celebrations is the sale of six sets of solid gold figures featuring Godzilla and King Ghidora.
