Single Yaoi fans rejoice as a special dating event for males and females will be held in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, where BL fans aged 21 – 35 can find themselves a suitable boyfriend/ girlfriend who share their love of Boy’s Love.
Boy’s Love, or BL has become one of the most popular anime and manga genres in Japan, so popular that its female fans, the fujoshis, have developed their own subculture with their “capital” set in Ikebukuro’s Otome Road, an area with BL and Yaoi-dedicated shops to cater to them. It has become the Fujoshi equivalent to the male otaku capital of Akihabara.
The dating event aims to bring together female and male fans of the genre and to talk about anime, manga, video games, and novels.
Contrary to popular belief, there are indeed male fans of BL who are actually strait and are only interested in women in real life, though because it is frowned upon by society, many are still “in the closet”. The dating event not only aims to pair up BL fans with one another, but also find them a suitable partner who deeply understands their hobbies which are often looked down upon by many members of society.
The dating event, dubbed “Ani Street Con in Ikebukuro” will be held at several participating restaurants in Ikebukuro this August 31, 2014
